Nook: Trend Spy: Fold-Away Furniture in a Trunk

Trend Spy: Fold-Away Furniture in a Trunk

This season, Restoration Hardware introduced this cigar leather Mayfair Steamer Secretary Trunk, a neatly organized office space with a pull-down desk, multiple drawers, cubbies, bookshelves and wire management for about $4000. While it seems massive, the dimensions are actually (amazingly) about the same as a bookshelf.

For years, the French luxury goods company Pinel & Pinel has outfitted incredible, colorful leather steamer trunks with movie screens, picnic necessities, an iPod-like home office, a DVD/CD system and several other surprising contents. They're cool, inventive, probably way out of our price range and worth checking out.

A few other ways to outfit a fold-away trunk furniture? Here are examples of a cocktail bar, a cubicle-style workstation, a bedroom dresser and a trunk to store clothes and accessories.
