Not long ago, an over-sized, Victorian fainting couch played a starring role on Mad Men by allowing Betty Draper to spend an afternoon in full swoon. Her interior decorator fiercely disapproved of it, but we've been thinking about luxurious antique chaises ever since.
Fainting couches -- also called napping couches, day beds and (in French) a recamiers -- are definitely having a moment in the spotlight. We rounded up a few (all green, for some reason) and though the colors choice doesn't vary much, the sure prices do.
Above: The mid-priced Madame Recamier sofa @ FCL Style, $2,459
High: Artisan-crafted, custom-made fainting couch made from natural, solid hardwoods. @ Vermont Woods, from $22,000
Mid: Forest green, tufted velvet with nailhead trim and cherry-finished maple legs. @ Horchow, $2,899
Low: Antoinette tufted velvet sofa with high arms and turned, hardwood spindle legs. @ Urban Outfitters, $575
