Coaster set @ Uncommon Goods, $50/set of 4. Roost bookends @ Velocity, $58. Mini pendants @ Lighting Universe, $282. Ikebana flower vase @ Uncommon Goods, $55. Yves cocktail table @ Oly. Picture frames @ Uncommon Goods, $36. Candle holders @ A+R, $110. Ita trivets/plates @ A+R, $70

People used to believe that agates had magical abilities. They could cure scorpion stings and snake bites. They could still thunder and lightning. And (my personal favorite) they could promote eloquence. Magic or not, it's easy to see why agates were so highly treasured. Their deeply saturated, translucent colors -- the result of minerals that got trapped in ancient volcanic lava -- are amazing and practically indestructible. Polished to a shine, they're quite magical indeed.

Unearthed trivet @ Anthropologie, $100. Bottle stoppers @ Uncommon Goods, $25. Trivet/plate @ Uncommon Goods, $70. Tigela polished bowls @ A+R, $55. Bronze lamp @ Artemis. Pendants necklaces @ Jennifer Fisher, from $500. Suncatcher window pendant @ Etsy, $10. Clocks @ Uncommon Goods, $80.
